Q&A with Artist Lori Herrington

Regular Joe: How or when did you discover your love of art?

I’ve always had a love for arts and crafts. I made clothes for my children when they were little and decorated their rooms. I never really started concentrating on art and exactly what I wanted to do until I was going through a divorce. Art gave me something to think about and kept me busy.

Regular Joe: Where do you draw inspiration from?

I find inspiration from nature. I love doing florals. But I am also inspired by other artists. And let’s face it, we have an abundance of talented artists in this town.

Regular Joe: What does your creative process look like?

My creative process starts with an idea. Next, I’ll usually sketch it out and finally decide how and what medium I want to use.

Regular Joe: What is your favorite medium to work with?

My two favorite mediums are watercolor and mixed media collage.

Regular Joe: Where can people find your work?

My art is carried at Narrative Home and The Frog Prince in St. Joseph.

Regular Joe: What are you working on now? Any special projects?

Right now, I’m finding a lot of joy in acrylic painting on hats. I’ve also recently had several commissions for collage.

Regular Joe: What advice would you give to aspiring artists?

For new artists, I would say try it all. Don’t be too critical of yourself. Self-criticism will slow you down. Go for it!
