Q&A with Musician Michael Coman

How did you get your start as a musician?

I was influenced by the British invasion of the 60’s. I started playing the guitar when I was 12 years old.

What group or groups are you involved with now?

I have an acoustic electric duo with my son Matthew called Coman & Coman. I also play bass guitar in a band called The Motors, & I play some solo shows with my acoustic guitar.

How would you describe your personal musical style?

Original & Americana music with some country blues.

What other musicians do you admire the most?

Probably Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Larkin & Poe, John Prine, & Chris Cornell.

What has been your most memorable show or performance?

Opening up for Charley Pride in front of 3,000 people.

What has been your biggest challenge as a musician? What do you find most rewarding?

Trying to connect with the audience. When someone likes one of my original songs.

What advice would you give to other aspiring artists?

To keep at it no matter what, & be true to yourself.
