New Smithville Restaurant Becomes Fast Favorite for Locals and Visitors

by Cassie Bond

Gizmos Tavern, an upscale gastropub which opened in October, has ties to a familiar face. Jonathan Justus, who ran the incredibly popular Justus Drugstore in Smithville from 2007 – 2018, is a consultant for the new restaurant. Justus helped develop Gizmos’ menu, and much like at his former restaurant, dishes are made from scratch as often as possible, and ingredients are sourced locally. Their pork, for example, comes from Paradise Locker Meats in Trimble, Missouri, and beef from Hertzog Meat Co. in Butler, Missouri.

Gizmos strives to serve traditional food with a modern twist. The menu has something for everyone, from the more traditional bar fare to more upscale culinary treats. Appetizers range from pretzel sticks, cheese curds, and wings to shrimp cocktail and calamari. The restaurant serves salads, a variety of handheld sandwiches, seafood and steak, and desserts.

The restaurant offers a fun but cozy atmosphere, suitable for any occasion, from a date night to a family dinner to a group outing. The many televisions make it a great place to watch a game, too. Located right on the square in downtown Smithville, it is a convenient stop whether you are downtown to shop, attend a special event, or are just passing through.

Gizmos is located at 111 N. Bridge St. in downtown Smithville, Missouri. The restaurant opens for lunch every day at 11 am. Happy Hour occurs daily from 3 – 6 pm and reverse Happy Hour from 9 – 11 pm.

You can find their full menu online at Gizmostavern.com or follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/gizmostavern to stay up to date on their latest specials and events.
