inspireU: A Hands-on Discovery Adventure in St. Joseph

by Cassie Bond

Families have a new educational entertainment option in downtown St. Joseph. Located in the historic Plymouth building, inspireU Children’s Discovery Center is a vibrant local discovery center dedicated to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in young minds.

Built by Mosaic Life Care Foundation, inspireU is a hands-on discovery center with various interactive exhibits designed to spark high-quality, imaginative play. The center aims to provide a space for families to play and learn together. inspireU also helps visitors learn about the ingredients to make a healthy child, healthy family, and healthy community with exhibits and programs highlighting five areas of health focus: movement, nutrition, connectedness, mindfulness, and curiosity.

inspireU offers 35,000 square feet with more than 21 core exhibits designed for infants through children up to 10 years old. It features a two-story climber, an infant and toddler area, and a townscape with an engineering space, hospital, theater, grocery store, and farmer’s market. There is also a water table based on the Missouri River, a rooftop with a climber, spaces to relax and enjoy a view of the Missouri River, a gift shop, and concessions.

The center has several direct ties to St. Joseph and the surrounding area. Throughout the exhibits, you’ll find features of local sponsors and homage to historical buildings and businesses. On average, guests spend one and a half to two hours exploring, but you can make your visit as long or brief as you want. No matter how much time you spend, you’ll have fun here.

inspireU was designed to be accessible to everyone. The restrooms, program areas, and party rooms are all accessible, and the main floor climber features an ADA-accessible catwalk. inspireU also has quiet rooms on three floors, providing a relaxing space. The welcome center also has KultureCity sensory bags for families to check out during your visit, which include noise-canceling headphones.

In addition to families, inspireU is a great option for groups. It is an ideal field trip destination for preschool to fifth graders, birthday parties, and space is available for corporate events and private rentals.

Be sure to stop by inspireU and take advantage of this local opportunity to have fun learning together! inspireU is located at 521 Felix St. in downtown St. Joseph and is open from 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and 12 pm – 5 pm on Sundays. Visit their website at inspireU.com.
