Meet The Frog Prince in St. Joseph, Missouri
by Cassie Bond
St. Joseph native Chelsea Teater started CAT Designs Jewelry & More in 2020. She focuses on jewelry, jewelry-related items, miniature bookshelves, and her work has won local awards. After selling online and in local brick-and-mortar stores for several years, she opened her own market, The Frog Prince, in April of 2024. The store carries Teater’s own work, but also gives local creators a physical location to sell their wares.
“I wanted an affordable space for any small business or local artist to set up, help get their business name out there, and let people see their stuff year round,” Teater says. “A lot of businesses can’t afford to be in a physical location and I wanted to ensure that most of the money made is going back to the creators. I was very fortunate when I started out that I had people who believed in me and really helped me out and I want to return that favor to other small businesses.”
The Frog Prince truly has something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a special treat for yourself or a unique gift to share, this store has you covered. They offer clothing and hats, bows, book pillows and art, candles and wax melts, tasty treats, rocks and crystals, pottery, jewelry, macrame, crochet, wood art, wreaths, lotions and beard care supplies, books by local writers, and so much more.
The store is very active in the downtown community and holds and participates in a variety of extra activities including workshops and pop-up events. In September, The Frog Prince hosted a Nightmare on 8th Street, which gave visitors a chance to learn about the paranormal activity in the building.
- The Frog Prince is also a stop on these upcoming downtown events:
- Stephanie Gummelt singing live on Saturday, Nov. 2nd from 12-2pm
- Stick’r Treat on Friday, Oct. 18 from 6 – 9 pm
- Haunted St. Joe Walking Tour with Investigation at The Frog Prince on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 – 11 pm
- First Saturdays and Wine Walk to Re-Discover Downtown on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 12 – 5 pm
- Will Stuck Christmas reading special on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10:30 am, then Santa will be at the store from 11 am-1 pm
“I knew if I opened a store I wanted it to be Downtown,” Teater explained. “I grew up here and I have always loved the vibe and potential of Downtown. There is growth happening here and the opportunity to bring a lot to the downtown area. I thought of the store I would want to go to and that’s what I did and downtown gave me the outlet and the vibe to create that. I think more people would enjoy downtown more if they came and check out all the new shops popping up.”
Be sure to follow the store’s facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/people/The-Frog-Prince/61553340009005/, because new inventory and events are added regularly. And the next time you visit downtown St. Joseph, stop by The Frog Prince and take home a new treasure or two.
The shop is located at 112 S 8th St. in downtown St. Joseph and open from 10am – 6pm Thursday through Saturday, and 10am – 2pm on Sundays.

The Fulfillment House began in 2018 as a passion project for two local business owners as one of their sons with Down Syndrome was navigating the often-difficult transition to life after high school. They saw the potential to take an existing business need and transform it into an enriching employment opportunity for adults with special needs.
